Oliver is obsessed with kids. When he sees them he says "Hi kids!" So, I figured I'd take him over to Esther's house so he could see her kids, Iyana and Orora, up close and personal. Typical conversation:
"Oliver, what did you do today?"
"Kids."
"Did you have fun?"
"Yeah, fun."

the choo choo song

Oliver has been asking for the choo choo song and we had no idea what he was talking about until I let him listen to my iPod. The first song I happened to come across that he might like was The Beatles' "I am the Walrus." Low and behold: the choo choo song!

now that i'm done with my dissertation i have time to do things like go to the apple store and buy a firewire cable so i can connect the camcorder to my computer. get ready for some video!

weaning

sorry if this is too much information, but i want to have a record of this...
yesterday oliver went down for his nap without nursing so we decided to put him to bed with no boobies. it was more difficult - we took turns rocking him and i think it took him about an hour to fall asleep. truth be told, oliver and i both cried intermittently, but it really wasn't as bad as i thought. i don't think he ever cried for longer than a minute and mostly he just wanted to be cuddled (a welcome change for me since he doesn't usually want to). then when he woke up in the middle of the night, he cried for just a second and i just held him. it was so much easier than i thought it was going to be and he's been such a cuddle bug. so aside from the fact that my boobs are rock hard, so far it's been a surprisingly positive experience.

Are you kidding me? Oliver just read this list and argued that it was more aptly suited for an eighteen month old. Seriously, he's had this stuff down for months. And by they way, Oliver hopped for the first time yesterday.
