Mommy: What are you doing?
Oliver: I'm just hangin out. Are you hangin out. (regarding my green pen) Is that green? Are you green mommy? I'm not green, I'm just yellow. (Makes fart noises & laughs) That's funny. What you writin'? Are you yellow mommy? Poop! Poop on mommy! (Laughs) That's not funny. (stream of jibberish) Yummy yummy tummy tummy. (regarding the plants on the kitchen table) Plants are going up. The mint. The chives. I like those. They're crazy. (jibberish) I'm so big. But I don't get gum. Not yet. But when I get bigger I should. When I'm older. P'cuz kids get gum.

The Anal Phase

I just found an envelope in a big stack of paperwork that had this conversation with Oliver scribbled on the back of it. I originally thought that I was going to capture my precocious child saying something about the dictionary that he was carrying around at that time, but it turned out to be all about poop. Isn't it always? This is from July 10, 2009:
This is a dictionary book. I'm going to read it to you. Are you ready? Ok. I'm gonna show you somethin. There are letters. They say poop. Read more of the book. Read a book about poop. Poop, poop, poop goes in the dot dot. That's a square. That's a poop square. There's all different poops. Letter poops. That starts with poop. You're a poop head. Poop comes out of your hiney.

Observations

Oliver's teacher, Miss Amy, wrote this on his daily sheet: "Oliver is so logical sometimes its hard to remember he's 3 years old. This morning when we were changing his clothes after an accident he discussed how he does go poop in the potty at mom's and he should probably ask me to go at school too because it is messy, yucky and makes your bottom sore to go in your pants."
