banana hat

This morning I shared a piece of my banana with Oliver. He didn't eat it, he just mushed it up, rubbed it all over his tray,

and stared at it.

Then he said "hat" and spread it through his freshly washed hair. I'm familiar with the banana hammock, but the mushed banana hat was new to me.

I think you'll find it's quite smashing.

This has to be a fast post because now, when Oliver sees the computer, he points as says "Elmo?..Elmo?...Elmo? la, la, la, la...Elmo?" We made the mistake of showing him sesameworkshop.org. Elmo's Potty Time is hilarious if you're interested, but parents be warned, watch it alone or you'll create a monster.

So, as you know, I've been working really hard and when I went to download photos on my computer, there were only 26. An all time low. But of course there were some cute ones, and here are some of them.

Here's Oliver wearing the awesome Olipop Superstar shirt that Amelia made and eating the delicious shark-shaped cookies that were sent to us from Mike and Maia. As you can see, they were a hit. Thanks guys!

These are obviously pictures of Oliver eating a banana. What makes this a photoworthy event (and really, what isn't when you're obsessed with your child) is that he was holding it himself and eating it like a little monkey. A few days ago he took a big bite of banana peel. He found that this was not delicious, but now he really likes the word peel, pronounced something like peeoh.

And he does this thing with his hands when something doesn't work. Usually that something is non-lactating boobies. He says "a boobie?," shrugs his shoulders, and does this thing with his hands. I don't have to tell you that the whole sequence is hilarious and unbelievably cute.

and yet more new words

Ahhh, the days of multiple posts. The days when I took pictures everyday. The days before I had a scheduled dissertation defense. Seriously folks, it's on April 10th. Can you believe it? And you thought I was going to remain a grad student forever...

There are new words and new combinations of words everyday. My particular favorite is "Mommy ahhhh," which he says when he sees my picture or gives me a hug (Jenny too, but I'm the blogger). Today he has a cold, hence the word tissue. Also, choo choo (usually he says "choo choo ouch" and covers his ears because he was close to a train when it blew its very loud whistle), pillow, tweet tweet, arf arf (after doggie), frog, whoa, cool, ew, you see?, bath, some variation of shampoo, Sesame (as in street), Oliver (pronounced Olva or Oliva), more, touch, don't touch.

One word that he does not seem to understand is "NO."

monkey hat

I've been remiss in showing you pictures of Oliver wearing his fabulous orange velvet monkey hat.

It covers his ears and I think for that reason he doesn't always like to leave it on (note that in subsequent pictures it's tied under his chin).

We start our morning walk with Oliver in the stroller and Romeo on a leash. While the former is preferred, we usually end up with Oliver running amok or being carried and Romeo in the bottom of stroller, sticking his little head out to bark at any ne'er-do-wells that dare cross our path.

Diaper butt.

He spent a fair bit of time puzzling over (and successfully closing) the clasp on his harness. It's only a matter of time until he figures out how to set himself free.

waffles!

New words: stars, bird, juice, box, cow, goat, owl, hoo hoo hoo, nuts, hammo (hammer, while hammering with fist which inevitably hurts so he holds it up to be kissed), pa (pen), pa pa (paper), tv, this, bew (blue). When asked what color something is, he will almost always say "bla" or "bew" or some variation of blue. Yesterday, however, I asked him about something red and he said "Elmo." Toes are "titi" (stinky, and indeed they are).

Mom butt

You might want to lay off the chili cheese fries, wide load.

Baby Jones

Baby Jones and his parents are visiting from London.

We all took turns holding the baby, but when I held him, Oliver gave me the old stink eye.

Isn't he dapper?

This photo is indicative of Oliver's interest in the baby...

as opposed to this one, in which I captured a fortuitous glance.

It was great seeing you Haydn-Jones/Antleys and we really want you to move back. I mean, come on, what does London have that we don't? (Besides free healthcare, strict gun laws, the Tate Modern, public transportation, a six month paid maternity leave, subsidized nappy services, great Indian food and a pub on almost every corner...)

dancin'

This boy's got some serious moves.

Is that the monster mash?

Olive and Oliver

Going in for the kiss...

Olive was rubbing Oliver's head and saying "soft" over and over again.

Olive multi-tasking. i.e. looking at the pictures in the book and marveling at the silky softness of Oliver's hair.

Despite Olive's rather forward advances, Oliver stayed focused on the book.

It was all pretty hilarious.

A Ball!

If you're not careful, this is what will happen to your tea in this house.
